Channelling the essence of classic denim silhouettes, Incotex Blue Division is a new denim line that fuses the expertise of trouser and denim brands Incotex and Giada. Merging both brands' respective design traits, the label creates a new aesthetic language for elevated denim with a sartorial attitude.
From tailored trousers to easy-to-wear five-pocket models, the collection carries refined textile engineering processes and three lines that express the soul of the brand: the Couture, the Lab and the Superior.
We spoke to the brand about the key concepts behind the new collection, how it combines denim and tailoring, key pieces with the collection, and more.
What is the key concept behind the new collection?
The concept behind the new collection is: denim meets sartorial – pushing the boundaries of the highest tailoring in the world of denim. The goal is to propose a pant that pioneers the denim world with new shapes and models.
A creative push that has led us to rationalise the collection in 3 lines: Couture – the highest expression of tailoring applied to the world of denim, Lab – a sustainable evolution of denim, and Superior – the re-interpretation of the classic 5 pockets, in a wide range of fabrics and washes.
What was the inspiration behind the collection?
For the creation of the collection, we started from fabrics and archive washes dating back to the 60s, revisiting them in a contemporary tone. High quality and sartorial standards of the past are renewed to give a new expression to denim.
What was the biggest issue that you had to face during the design process for the new collection and how did you overcome it?
First of all, tailoring denim in terms of machinery is very different from those used in the denim world. It is particularly challenging to create the lab selection, particularly at a time when denim is certainly not the most sustainable area of the fashion system. Finding the combination between these elements was the biggest challenge, but we are finding a process to solve them.
Please tell us more about how the brand combines denim and tailoring?
The tailoring of the Incotex Blue Division five-pocket is expressed in exceptional fits, maniacal attention to detail, and impeccable finishings: the 3 pillars on which the sartorial world is founded and which we have replicated in denim. We partnered with Giada, the best manufacturer of the best denim on the market and linked our long history and experience to them. Incotex has been making pants since 1951. The results can be seen in the details: double pleats, tailored pockets, a V-split on the back of the belt and an inner lining in fine fabrics.
How do you see the brand’s denim styles developing down the line?
The evolution will definitely be to pursue the tailoring of denim and to bring more and more of our experience to its service. To do so, we will enable forgotten garments from the men's wardrobe to give them new life. As in the case of dungarees, which was presented at PITTI in a limited edition dyed with a natural and 100% sustainable process.
In addition, combining tailoring with sustainability will be the real evolution and objective of the next collections. This will allow us to develop new techniques and innovations. It will be a challenge, but a fundamental one for the sustainable growth of the brand.
What icon/muse from the past or present would you love to see wearing the brand and why?
Vincent Cassel: the epitome of European lifestyle.
What makes your denim ‘elevated’?
The careful selection of precious materials, the combination of denim technique and sustainable treatment.
What are the key pieces that you are most excited about from this collection and why?
All our lines are characterised by unique pieces. The Couture line represents the greatest innovation in the world of denim, combining knowledge and craftsmanship, research and experimentation, elegance and avant-garde thinking – an emblem of the partnership between Incotex and Giada. The sustainable line will also play a fundamental role.
What's next for the brand?
We have decided to add a partnership with Slowear – the retail concept of Incotex Blue Division. To celebrate this we had windows at Rinascente Firenze, designed for us by illustrator Pierluigi Longo. In addition, we organised an exclusive event for buyers and press on the department store's panoramic terrace, and an exclusive partnership with Franciacorta, the most renowned Italian sparkling wine.
