Brand Profile
With the motto ‘Inhale the past, exhale the future”, ZSIGMOND’s mission is to craft timeless garments that pave the path to the future with the heritage of the past. ZSIGMOND was established in 2014 in Hungary and is now sold in Tokyo, Berlin, Valencia, New York, Brussels and Budapest, as well as in several online stores.
The uniqueness of the brand comes from its approach to garment-making: merging innovation with heritage preservation, the output is dark and raw in style and entirely unique in execution. ZSIGMOND follows a sustainable production cycle that comes organically from its approach. The designs incorporate heritage and handcraft garment-making techniques, such as embroidery, plant-dying, screen-printing, hand-knitting or knot-braiding and old practices that were used pre-fast fashion in order to lengthen the lifecycle of garments. All fabrics are purchased through qualified European manufacturers with a focus on sustainable options, such as 100% organic cotton, 100% recycled polyester, Elbwolle, deadstock materials, and innovative fabrics like patented 100% recycled thindown. The REMADE line, consisting of one-of-a-kind pieces, gives new lives to decades- or even hundred-year-old textiles, while leftover fabrics are utilised in zero-waste pieces, accessories or details on new garments. As a way of giving back to the community, production takes place in the region of Hungary, where the designer Dora grew up. The brand regularly collaborates with local and international artists and supports small, independent manufacturers. Orders are packaged in recycled paper and then dispatched using DHL’s Go Green service which minimises logistics-related emissions, waste and other environmental impacts.
In line with the brand’s sustainable and ethical principles, ZSIGMOND’s production model mainly focuses on made-to-order which helps to avoid the piling of superfluous stock and allows for more flexibility in production.
