Brand Profile
"The Prince of Prints"
Chulaap is a bold and vibrant menswear brand that has gained a global following for its unique and innovative approach to prints. Chu Suwannapha, the founder and creative force behind the label, has become known as the ‘prince of prints’ for his mastery of pattern and colour use. Suwannapha’s collections celebrate contemporary Africa, incorporating traditional African prints with a modern, edgy twist.
'Every Print Tells a Story"
Chu Suwannapha was born and raised in Thailand, where he developed a passion for fashion and design from an early age. He studied Fashion design at ESMOD in Paris before moving to Cape Town, South Africa. In 2015 Suwannapha decided to launch his brand Chulaap, at South African Menswear Week to instant acclaim. Before starting his own brand, Suwannapha worked as a fashion editor and director for several leading South African magazines. This editorial background has been invaluable in shaping his collections, which are always impeccably styled and expertly layered. His Thai heritage and love for his adoptive country are evident in every piece, with Afro-centric prints and colours adding a unique and modern edge to his collections.
"Make it Edgy but Straightforward"
Chulaap's design philosophy is all about creating ‘happy fashion.' While the collections are rooted in African tradition and culture, they are also projected towards contemporary Africa and it’s future. Through shape, form and texture as well as a range of techniques, including the mixing of traditional African prints with batik, ombre, or check, as well as intricate detailing like origami or embroidery, Suwannapha creates unique and innovative designs. The brand's edgy and modern style appeals to fashion-forward individuals who value fresh, bold, and straightforward dressing.
"What's on Offer"
Chulaap offers a wide range of menswear, including shirts, jackets, trousers, shorts, and accessories. His collections feature a mix of traditional African prints, modern patterns, and bold colours, designed to stand out from the crowd.
