Brand Profile
Pedü were the typical shoes of the inhabitants of Valmalenco, an alpine valley in Valtellina (Sondrio, north of Milan, across Lake Como). They were produced until the 1950s, made by village women who learned the secrets of this art by observing the craftsmanship of the older ladies.
The Pedü project was born out of the desire to restore value to a craft knowledge that was in danger of being lost, keeping alive a cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation among the families of Valmalenco.
We believe in a fashion industry that is ethical and responsible towards the environment and the people who work in it.
Our footwear is made from 100% eco-friendly materials that we select with care.
Our Pedü are durable footwear. We embrace the "buy better, buy less" philosophy: our products are of the highest quality, made entirely by hand, and long-lasting. They are made from eco-friendly fabrics and materials, without the use of leather or plastic parts. The shoe upper is made with a double layer of laminated natural fabrics.
The seams are made with high-strength polyester thread obtained from recycled PET. The midsole is made of four layers of recycled PET felt, overlaid and sewn together without the use of glues. This type of sole provides support, thermal insulation and thermoregulation. Each model is equipped with Vibram® ECOSTEP sole, an ecological compound made with at least 30 percent recycled rubber from the production stages.
Each Pedü is made entirely by hand in our artisan workshop in Sondrio, in the heart of the Alps. Unlike in the past, today we use sewing machines, thus improving the strength and accuracy of the finishes. These are checked manually by seamstresses, stitch by stitch, keeping the quality of the footwear high and the craftsmanship that distinguishes it alive.
