RÆBURN’s Functional Outwear Just Got a Serious Level Up

Exhibitors Spotlight focuses on a selection of brands exhibiting at this year's Pitti Uomo, showcasing their upcoming collections and special upcoming projects.

Christopher Raeburn has been challenging the fashion industry to do better since founding his eponymous brand back in 2009. When RÆBURN launched, it started with a simple idea — taking one military pilot’s parachute and transforming it into eight outwear pieces. The concept for that small collection was called RÆMADE and its philosophy still drives the company today.
Of course, over the last 13 years, the brand has evolved significantly. Now, RÆBURN is underpinned by a wider philosophy that it calls the three Rs: RÆMADE, RÆDUCED, and RÆCYCLED. As they tell us, “the RÆMADE process is all about zero waste and utilizing what already exists; it sees us reworking deadstock and surplus artifacts to create beautifully considered handcrafted items. (Everything carrying the  RÆMADE label is made in its innovative East London RÆBURN Lab, a space that’s home to its archive, atelier, and a range of events and workshops that give customers the opportunity to craft their own one-of-a-kind creations.) RÆDUCED and RÆCYCLED are all about low-impact materials, local manufacture, and small batch production, essentially reducing negative output and moving towards a closed-loop.”

The brand continues: “More recently, we introduced a new pillar, RÆFOUND, which comprises original, unworn military apparel and accessories. It really stands as a systemic solution to the mounting environmental and inventory crisis, with nothing new and nothing wasted – because ultimately, what could be more radical than making nothing at all?”
This season marks yet another shift for the RÆBURN brand. For FW22, it is releasing a collection that’s all about covert utility, including pieces such as fireproof and abrasion-resistant outerwear. For the RÆBURN team, this season also represents a “reset,” creating a range “that’s more elevated and functional than ever before.” It sounds like that’s not all there is to be excited about, either. The brand is working on a lot of special projects at the moment, including developing its ongoing relationship with Timberland and the collaborative “Earthkeepers by RÆBURN” capsule. What’s more, it promises that there’s a lot more on the way in 2022 “so please stay tuned…”
