American streetwear label Brandblack fuses high fashion with hyper-current technology

Exhibitors Spotlight focuses on a selection of brands exhibiting at this year's Pitti Uomo, showcasing their upcoming collections and special upcoming projects.

Classic shapes, clean cuts, and tailoring may be heavily trending across the luxury menswear circuit, but these days, relishing tradition by way of sartorial choices doesn’t have to come at the cost of a lifestyle encumbrance — particularly not considering the pace and modular nature of contemporary urban life, and its needs.
Indeed, amongst the brands on display at this year’s Pitti Imagine Uomo, we’ve witnessed a variety of labels upgrade their classic brand of traditionally crafted attire with an added focus on performance, fabrics, and sustainability, making the most of the technological strides made over the past two decades.
Founded in 2012 by David Raysse, son of Kenzo founding member Gilles Raysse and model Carol La Brie, Brandblack is a performance footwear and apparel brand. Deeply informed by its founder’s experience working as a lead designer at Fila and as Director of Basketball at Adidas, the streetwear-infused menswear label efficiently condenses high fashion and technology, for a strikingly current, sleek, and versatile result.
This season, Brandblack is doubling down on the core principle underpinning its collection narratives: performance. Fittingly, the Brandblack Axis SS22 collection fuses the latter with a bold and relevant aesthetic vision. For this collection, the designers worked with a muted, understated color palette and used premium materials to create product that is balanced and sophisticated. Innovation is a large part of the Axis collection, and the American brand took its keen interest in the most elaborate design technologies with the ideation of two separate footwear silos titled Performance and Moda, which offer a range of high-quality, high-performing sneakers using technologies such as the vulcanized Wraptech, which enables full performance for a fraction of the weight.
Style isn’t exclusive of efficiency, and high-performing garments sure are no longer coming at the cost of a sartorial compromise.
