Brand Profile
HISTORY
Tsuneo Matsumoto, the founder of Oriental Shoes, had experienced the Burma Campaign during the Pacific War. He witnessed many of his fellow comrades lose their lives due to a lack of shoes. After the war had ended, Matsumoto recovered from the shock caused by this painful experience and decided that his mission in life was to contribute to society by making shoes, and began shoemaking from scratch. He established Toyo Seika Co., Ltd., Oriental Shoes’ predecessor, in 1957. The company changed its name to Oriental Shoes in 1964, and in addition to bringing in Western machines to produce shoes using the Goodyear and McKay processes, it also expanded the range of its techniques by manufacturing various brands of shoes.
Tsuneo Matsumoto’s ambition of “making functional shoes to protect our customers’ feet and brighten their lives” is always at the root of our shoemaking.
CONCEPT
Ready-made shoes that are beautiful and comfortable
Oriental is a Japan-made shoe brand that was launched in 2016.
Its parent company Oriental Shoes has a long history of producing Goodyear-welted shoes in collaboration with Italian and French manufacturers.
Oriental uses the same Goodyear process, but also re-evaluates the lasts, the leather and the fit to update its shoes to suit the modern man.
We will continue to meet the strict standards and demands of our Japanese customers, and create beautiful and comfortable leather shoes.
