Italian sportswear pioneer C.P. celebrates a five-decade menswear legacy

Exhibitors Spotlight focuses on a selection of brands exhibiting at this year's Pitti Uomo, showcasing their upcoming collections and special upcoming projects.

This season, heritage, tailoring, casual, and sportswear have been more interlinked than ever, attesting to a new shift in the post-lockdown menswear market, trends, and consumer needs — perhaps more than ever before, quality and comfort being the winning sartorial fusion.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Italian sportswear label C.P. has left a globally acknowledged mark in the realm of ready-to-wear for its hybrid style — combining the functionality of vintage military attire, work, and sportswear boosted by extensive fabric research and innovation, heightened by using the pioneering method of garment dyeing.
This hybridization of functional menswear with an unwavering focus on quality and endurance lies at the root of the company founded in 1971 by Massimo Osti, a young graphic designer based in Bologna.
This year, to pay homage to its five-decade legacy, C.P. Company built its own digital archive — a permanent online exhibition featuring garments, objects, sketches, editorials, and some of the brand’s historical highlights. They published an accompanying book featuring the contents of their archive. Resolved as ever to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation, the brand enacted the idea of an open-source archive in an effort to make it accessible and honor the community, culture and fan-base that led to its enduring success.
