We Want to Live in Roberto Collina’s “Universe of Jumpers”

Exhibitors Spotlight focuses on a selection of brands exhibiting at this year's Pitti Uomo, showcasing their upcoming collections and special upcoming projects.

Roberto Collina is not only synonymous with knitwear but with Made in Italy excellence. For the last 60 years, Collina’s brand, founded by his parents in 1953, has been ideating and creating elegant, luxury knits from Crevalcore, a town north of Bologna. “In a period of Italian companies increasingly moving overseas,” he tells us, “we celebrate our history with pride. Our production is completely located in Italy, it is a guarantee of quality and design.”
While heritage is integral to Collina’s work, so is evolution; each product is subject to a long period of research before it is realized, unearthing, as the brand explains, “the infinite possibilities of potential, which contain the past and drive towards the future.” This future is the continuation of its “universe of new jumpers that are original and high value, [created with] the best raw materials and the most advanced production techniques. Through the research and experiments on volume, structures, and forms that enhance the brand — each model [is] a multi-purpose, cutting-edge product.”
For FW22, Collina is exploring life after lockdown, the desire to return to “normal,” of getting out of the house and meeting people, of being outdoors, and forming deeper relationships with nature. Thus, landscape and “fragments of natural elements” provided key inspirations this season. “In this collection, we focused on the texture and special experiment[ation] with really high-quality raw materials. The garments have become loose and comfortable silhouettes.”
Elsewhere, the brand is developing a small capsule called RC Archive, a project “conceived to interpret the Roberto Collina archive in a contemporary” way. “This is only the starting point. In the future, we would like to extend this project, building a sort of lab where to experiment and play with contaminations, fluidity, research, and creativity, without betraying our mission and our DNA.” Watch this space.
