Brand Profile
Luca Kemkes is a menswear designer from Amsterdam, with a specialization in textiles and streetwear. Who makes streetwear by repurposing household textiles. The inspirations she finds on the streets in the neighborhoods on the edge of Amsterdam, she mixes with the rich second hand textiles. The street-work- and sports-wear influences will be mostly seen in the silhouettes used inspired by her favorite classics. The influences are even woven in to each other further in the handicraft applied on the fabrics, like quilting a pattern of sportswear logo’s instead of a traditional flower patterns. The latest collection: A Bed Collection, was entirely made out of second hand bedding. All in white to show the beautiful techniques used on the materials, that otherwise would have become waste. In the next collections Luca Kemkes will explore experimenting different household materials. Within fashion streetwear is behind in order to become more sustainable. Each treasure of material Luca Kemkes works with is one of a kind. And inspires its shape in which it will showcase most beautiful. Since the material is limited it challenges you to work more sustainable. For example restore or embellish damages, no waste-pattering or patchwork the remains. Which is great because this meant no left-overs and less material waste. With my clothes I like to show that working with repurposing materials only made the clothes more beautiful and unique.
