Brand Profile
Since 1955, Original Penguin has carved out a distinctive place in menswear - where sport, subculture and effortless style intersect. Born from Minneapolis-based Munsingwear, the brand introduced one of the first iconic golf shirts to the US, laying the foundation for a legacy built on character, craftsmanship and individuality.
From the outset, Original Penguin moved seamlessly between sport and culture. Early fans included Arnold Palmer on the course, alongside Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby off the course - establishing a crossover appeal that still defines the brand today. Through the 1960s and 70s, golf icons such as Jack Nicklaus and professional bowler Earl Anthony helped cement its place in popular culture, with the now-iconic named Earl Polo becoming a cornerstone of the brand’s identity.
As trends shifted, Original Penguin remained relevant by continually returning to its storied history. The 90s saw a renewed appreciation for heritage styling, while the early 2000s cemented the Penguin logo as a recognisable symbol of retro-inspired design with celebrities such as Brad Pitt introducing the brand to a new generation, reinforcing its enduring appeal.
Today, Original Penguin continues to evolve; staying relevant while celebrating its past. A refreshed logo introduced in 2024 marked a new chapter, while the brand’s 70th anniversary in 2025 was celebrated with the birth of the Icon Collection - a heritage-inspired capsule edit, drawn from its design archive.
With an expanding presence across golf, tennis and lifestyle categories, Original Penguin remains defined by a playful yet considered approach to classic menswear - proving that true style never dates.
