Brand Profile
Founded in 1829, Tricker’s is proudly the oldest established shoemaker in Britain and celebrates 194 years in business in 2023. Still owned by its founding family, the brand’s commitment to making shoes and boots of outstanding quality remains wholeheartedly consistent. All Tricker’s footwear is made entirely from start to finish at its Northampton factory and, whilst manufacturing processes have changed over time, its craftsmen and women continue to follow traditional techniques. From the outset Tricker’s had a reputation for outstanding manufacturing quality and durability quickly becoming the maker of choice for heavy country boots and shoes to farm, estate owners and the landed gentry who all swore by the comfort, strength, durability and practicality of Tricker’s waterproof country footwear. Tricker’s country shoes and boots are today built to the same exacting standards that first established its reputation. Today there are still 260 individual processes in the making of a pair of Tricker’s country boots and they take eight weeks to manufacture. All of them are carried out by master shoemakers who have learned their trade over many years. When the time comes that your beloved favourite Tricker’s have seen better days – you can send them back to Tricker’s – the team regularly restore shoes and boots of all ages and can almost always bring them back to life. Tricker's (most recent) factory, located at 56-60 St Michael's Rd, Northampton, first opened its doors in 1903 and is still the base for all the brand’s manufacturing today. Whilst traditional production processes have changed over time, Tricker’s commitment to making shoes and boots of outstanding quality has remained the same and its team can perform specialist operations which many other welted manufacturers cannot. Truly a globally recognised brand with export sales equating for eighty percent of its business, Tricker’s is available in 43 different countries across the world. Passionate about maintaining the profile of shoemaking in Northampton and securing the future of England’s master shoemakers, Tricker’s offers a full bespoke made-to-measure service alongside its made-to-order and ready-made business. Current MD Martin Mason has invested in training and already introduced more apprenticeships to the Tricker’s factory, including the brand’s very first female master shoemaker QEST apprentice. A world exclusive with Olivvia leather is the latest development. Championed by Managing Director, Mason, Tricker’s have secured a three year deal enabling them exclusive use of this innovative leather within the footwear market. Developed in partnership with German tannery Weinhemer, Olivvia leather uses olive leaves in the leather tanning process and is one of the newest leathers in the marketplace. The olive leaves provide a totally chrome-free tanning alternative and are a bi-product of the olive industry diverted from being burnt as a waste product, thereby avoiding the environmental impact of that process.
