Technical outdoor wear returns as a key feature at Pitti.

When Gorpcore was first coined in 2017, it was used to highlight a niche group of metropolitan consumers that had begun making technical outdoor wear a style staple. Since then, the movement has grown to become one of the most important fashion trends of 2022, with global shopping platform Lyst confirming its status in its latest quarterly index.

More than just a trend, the appetite for baggy protective outerwear has been recognized as a wider lifestyle movement as consumers increasingly look to technical outerwear and footwear that could withstand the elements.

While traditional outdoor players like Arc’teryx and Salomon have found success in the Gorp wave, the influence of the movement goes beyond their streetwear collabs and celebrity endorsement. Now young designers and brands like Post Archive Faction, Roa and Jean-Luc Ambridge Lavelle are reimagining new uniforms for urban city dwellers that blend technical design with a modern mindset.
Recognizing that movement and functionality has become a key purchasing criteria for many fashion consumers, Pitti Uomo returns for FW23 with I Go Out, the section dedicated to the world of experimental outdoor clothing. The Sala Della Ronda will, once again, be hosting this specific section with brand appearances from Ræburn, Holden, Keen, and Teva, to name a few.
This season, HOLUBAR celebrates its 75th anniversary at the show with three special projects: Nigel Cabourn X Holubar, Denham X Holubar, and Vibram X Holubar. Together the pioneer of American outdoor clothing will introduce non traditional interpretations of its iconic products that sit at the crossroads between fashion and function.
