Brand Profile
Sekkei's origins are founded on sustainability in all its forms. There is environmental sustainability, but there is also human and social sustainability, and each of these can be considered and warded along the paths that allow us to provide products and services.
These convictions were clear and firm even in the embryonic phase of Sekkei, but they were subsequently outlined by understanding what to do first and then how to do it. Sekkei produces interior furniture, but why furniture? Because, even if we sometimes take them for granted, we continuously interact with the furnishings in our offices, our homes, and all the spaces we occupy. These objects, although inanimate, are capable of influencing our mood, our feelings, and indirectly also the relationships we have with others. In short, it would not be a good idea to neglect the furnishings and perhaps, by using the right mix, we can improve - day by day - our lives and rediscover that harmony with nature that characterized the past, but which, at the same time, we are positively convinced, will also characterize our future.
So let's come to how: how to create these objects? Adopting what kind of materials and what energy expenditure? The founders of Sekkei come from a legacy of artisans and still consider themselves as such. Italian manual labor is envied all over the world and the founders know this well. Nevertheless, the company's name derives from a Japanese word, but we’d like to remind that in the Far East manual labor is no joke either. In Japanese, the concept 設計 "sekkei" means: design, plan or arrangement. And the expert hands of an artisan can convey, through the simplicity of a good drawing or a well-studied plan, the aforementioned sustainability, without compromising beauty.
The material chosen is cardboard, to combine solidity with the dynamism of curves and shapes that, with other materials, would be extremely costly and energy-intensive. In addition, the natural glue and wood finishes are precious details that can further increase the surprising longevity of the products.
