Brand Profile
In April 2003, Pharrell Williams, the 10-time Grammy-winning producer, singer, and fashion designer travelled to Tokyo for a N.E.R.D. concert. Needing a recording studio while in Japan, mutual friends linked him with renowned fashion designer and A Bathing Ape creator NIGO, who lent Williams his recording studio as the pair bonded over music, fashion, and design. After discussing the concept for a new clothing brand, the duo met globally renowned Japanese graphic designer Sk8thing at a club later, who showed them three logos he had just conceived. An idea was born, with Williams and NIGO using the drawings as the now-iconic logo to launch their fashion brand Billionaire Boys Club. From this, they also launched ICECREAM. Its initial conception was as a sneakers collection to compliment the Billionaire Boys Club in the early days of the brand. The word “BBC/ICECREAM” has since been synonymous as a single entity, but the two can exist as single entities. This is thanks to the initial graphic output by Sk8thing, which fuelled the initial skate shoes and a full apparel and accessories collection thereafter. In the years since that prophetic meeting, Billionaire Boys Club & ICECREAM have become globally recognized clothing and accessories brands whose blend of street-wear and luxury has influenced countless pockets of fashion, music, design, and culture. As Billionaire Boys Club has morphed to lead and define fashion, its aspirational motto highlights a brand perpetually focused more on an embrace of originality and self than the direct financial realities of its name; “Wealth is of the heart and mind, not the pocket.”
