Born above a shop in Newcastle, we’ve been making some of the most iconic gear the outdoors has ever seen since 1966. We’ve always believed the best of life is lived outside, which is why we do what we do. And we do it pretty well; we pioneered the use of internal frames in mountain packs, we were the first European brand to commercially bring GORE-TEX to market and we have developed some category -shaping innovations like Hydrodown and Offset Baffling which have changed the world of insulation. We came to be at a time when dull khaki kit dominated the mountain and our loud outerwear made quite the racket, becoming go-to gear for a couple of the greatest British alpinists of all time. And while designed with peak adventures in mind, these same performance jackets took on a life of their own in the 90s and 00s when they were put to the test in new extremes on the dancefloors and football terraces of the North. In places like Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow, Berghaus became a signifier of what you were into.
