Caruso Is the Italian Brand Breaking Menswear Cliches

Exhibitors Spotlight focuses on a selection of brands exhibiting at this year's Pitti Uomo, showcasing their upcoming collections and special upcoming projects.

Back in 1958, tailor Raffaele Caruso embarked on a journey, leaving his hometown of Naples to set up his own atelier in Soragna, Parma, a small Italian town without sartorial traditions. There, he made a name for himself by creating made-to-measure suits for the region’s entrepreneurs. Now, he is that area’s sartorial tradition. Fast forward through the decades and Caruso has grown to become a 500-employee strong luxury menswear brand, praised by the biggest houses across the globe for its outstanding quality.
Today, the Caruso team is helmed by Marco Angeloni who, along with his team, desires to break the tired cliches that surround classic tailoring: the stiff, unevolving, personalityless uniforms, and the head-turning pieces too eager to attract attention. Instead, Caruso offers a third option: “[We view] elegance not as a show, but as a lifestyle,” they tell us, “rich in joy and lightheartedness. Caruso is made for a man who wants to express his personality, his refined choices, and point of view with confidence and nonchalance.”
That sense of self-assured, playful ease is stitched into every garment the Caruso brand creates. For AW22, it has drawn inspiration from a man that embodied that attitude, the celebrated jazz musician and artist, Miles Davis. The result is a line that is both relaxed yet incredibly smart.
Elsewhere, this season Caruso has experimented with unexpected materials and dyes. In several pieces, it has blended its heritage with sportswear, creating a range of tailored sports garments in cashmere, extra-fine wool, and technical fibres. It is also taking steps to become more environmentally responsible in its collections, launching a limited-edition line created from materials repurposed from its previous collections.
