Is formal menswear in good health? Is the suit still a status symbol? What can now be considered ‘classic’ in the men’s wardrobe? Is the tie an accessory of the past? Have lace-ups by now become a stereotype of dandies?
Pitti Immagine Uomo takes a careful look at these questions, discussing them, analyzing the various elements, and proposing its findings that are never hurried and always developed with consideration for exhibitor proposals. This time it is much more difficult to take stock of the situation: the missing tactile experience of in-store shopping, with virtual having become as necessary as it is exasperating, has had repercussions on an unclear situation that has seen the barriers of classic formalwear torn down with the tsunami-arrival of sportswear and with it, the sweatshirts, sneakers, and backpacks that seemed to have little or nothing to do with the classic universe. However, it is from here, by setting to the side a Jacobin spirit and orthodox vision too often characteristic of the formal world, that it is now possible to restart and think up a new formal and a reinvented tailoring that is above all contaminated.
Here as follows is a selection of brands that are more or less known, where the ‘formal’ element is a starting point in creating an expected, yet always fantastically classic style.
