Coming from a small coastal town in the Eastern Cape of South Africa instilled a languid sensibility within Lukhanyo Mdingi, founder of the eponymous fashion label. After graduating from Cape Town’s Cape Peninsula University in 2015, the designer says participating in the Generation Africa project at Pitti Immagine Uomo in 2017, set the momentum for the label’s trajectory.

The spirit of time has yielded Lukhanyo Mdingi to create collections that have a certain steadiness to it. Season after season, the brand is constantly looking at the essentials and refining each style, working towards a timeless wardrobe made to last. The intention is to collectively create a body of work that has a sense of soulfulness to it, work that is steady, solid and strong.

As one of five African designers chosen for the Ethical Fashion Initiative Accelerator Programme, Lukhanyo Mdingi will feature in a special project during Pitti Immagine Uomo 99, in January 2021.
