Home Is Where the Elegance Is, Kiton Gets Relaxed for FW 21
Exhibitors Spotlight focuses on a selection of brands exhibiting at this year's Pitti Uomo, showcasing their upcoming collections and special upcoming projects.
Founded by Ciro Paone in Naples in 1968, Kiton represents the excellence of Italian haute couture. With decades of consistency in the luxury menswear field, the brand name refers to the ancient Greek word khitōn, a kind of tunic worn during prayer.
With meticulous attention to detail, the typical Kiton garment takes upwards of 25 hours to produce. Manufactured with traditional tools such as chalk and scissors, the brand established its own tailoring school in 2001. An elite training hub, the young recruits train for three years until they are ready to work at the company, primed to continue the brand’s long legacy.
Known for its flattering Neapolitan cut and high-quality fabrics, previous collections have incorporated meticulous detailing, including boat-shaped breast pockets that follow the curve of a jacket’s armhole or embroidered buttonholes hand-cut with a hammer and chisel
Interpreting their sartorial tradition with a progressive yet relaxed eye, the brand is adopting a new approach for its FW 21 collection. As homes across the globe become versatile spaces for both work and leisure, the collection blurs the line between traditional home and office wear.
“The Kiton Men's Fall Winter 2021-22 collection reflects the historical moment we are living in and responds to a specific need for comfort,” says Managing Director Dr. Antonio De Matteis. “In times of smart working, Kiton aims to redefine and adapt the codes of traditional elegance to the new lifestyle of contemporary man. Formalwear continues to play a key role, but it is reinterpreted in a relaxed way: jackets are rethought to match sweaters and t-shirts. The collection is inspired by natural colours and the style is characterised by a strong monochrome trend.”
Using tailoring to elevate leisurewear ideals, the collection embraces comfort, without compromising Kiton’s core DNA. An office staple, the classic men’s suit is reimagined with a relaxed freshness, alleviating the conceptual stiffness of the silhouette, as the collection approaches the style from a unique angle.
With a focus on elevated tailoring, the jackets within the collection are made with premium cashmere yarns. The versatile pieces can be worn with raised collars, creating a more relaxed look.
Featuring big checks, houndstooth, and herringbone patterns, the collection’s tones span from dark to light grey, alongside a full autumnal palette which includes maple leaf bordeaux, musk green, forest brown, and classic blue.
Cashmere is present in varying weights and finishings, including Irish Aran inspired sweaters and geometrical motifs, alongside hoodies, oversized cardigans, and a cozy luxury version of the classic coat.
Sneakers play a pivotal part in the collection, introducing them as effortless style solutions, designed to be worn with blazers and leisurewear. The cashmere version of the trainers evolves with the collection's palette, following the success of past seasons.
The collection also includes homeware in the form of pillows and matching blankets made from luxurious cashmere.
